Up To No Good: Jackson

Artist's Bio...

Fri Mar 7, 2008, 6:56 AM
From creative writing to drawings, paintings and crafts, Tara has been able to express herself in many unique ways. In middle school and high school, art class was a place for her to escape the drama and stress of life as a young adult and teenager. It was in her high school art classes with teacher Paula Borsetti that Tara truly began to realize her talents. She began to explore various media including graphite, chalk, charcoal and pastels. Her drawings were true-to-life pieces drawn from observation of people, animals and still-life.

During her senior year, she learned of a scholarship to the local art college, Montserrat College of Art. This was a full tuition scholarship for a graduate of Beverly High School, who excelled in art as well as academia. Tara applied for the scholarship with the help of her teacher and was awarded full tuition to attend Montserrat College of Art.

At Montserrat, Tara received formal training in objective drawing using various media, painting, two-dimensional design principles, three-dimensional design, graphic design, life drawing from models and modeling from the human form. She also studied examples of art and architecture from different cultures and historical period.

After completing the foundation training program in 2002, Tara realized that she wanted a career in biology. She transferred to Salem State College and in 2006 graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology, and minors in Art and Chemistry.

From May 2006 until July 2007, Tara worked as a veterinary technician at the Borash Veterinary Clinic in Peabody, MA. Here she learned an extraordinary amount of knowledge and skills about veterinary medicine and animal husbandry. Some of her responsibilities included: prepping appointments, hospital cases and boarder admissions; surgical and anesthetic preparation; vaccine and medication administration; venipuncture.

In July, Tara left the clinic to return to Salem State College to work for the Biology department as a laboratory technician. While she enjoyed the work and the people, she wanted more for herself and eventually landed a position as Research Associate at Cell Signaling Technology in Danvers. She works in the Immunofluorescence group, which is involved in validating antibodies that are stained with immunofluorescent stain. The images of the antibodies that can be created using a special confocal microscope, could be considered an art form, they are so amazing. She is honored to have the opportunity to work in such an innovative field.

While her career path is science-related, Tara plans to continue her artwork on the side, both for fun and for business with commissions. Recently, she has completed several portraits of people as well as animals for friends and relatives. Her current projects include: an abstract painting for a child's bedroom and several pet portraits.
